The style of this 8m x 4.5m pool, described by Argo Architects as ‘industrial funk’, is based on a simple design, which makes the entire outdoor area stand out. The pool is a complete family entertainer, and comes with a glass window that allows homeowners to see into the pool from the kitchen.

Argo Architects designed both the pool and the extension of the existing house, which was fully-documented in conjunction with newport Consulting engineers. The pool was built right up against the property’s southern boundary, which showcases the best aspect of the house. its location allows the homeowners to enjoy views of the outside seating area from the kitchen, which is ideal for keeping an eye on younger children.

The company encountered slight architectural difficulties when designing the house to sit on top of the pool’s wall and cantilever, which extends approximately 3.5m over the deep end of the pool. However, the finished result is extremely practical, and the extension creates a perfect amount of shade over the pool.

The pool’s surrounding landscape was also designed by Argo Architects, which comes complete with stunning gardens, concourses and a pool pavilion. The tiled walls and concourses are designed to flow seamlessly into the property’s existing landscape, and the heavy timber posts and ironbark hardwood screening allows for better integration with the home’s colour scheme.

The blue glass tiles beautifully complement the walls inside the home, and the rusty red and brown timber creates an earthy feel throughout the area. A davey pool circulation pump operates in the pool, and solar heating ensures that it remains both cost- and energy-efficient.

Argo Architects specialises in all aquatic projects, from residential pools through to olympic-sized venues and water theme parks. The company design, document and project manage all pools, and pride itself on a budget-friendly and high-quality outcome every time. director, Will Marcus, leads a passionate and experienced team of designers who live and work mainly in the south-east Queensland region, and although the company works on mostly residential pools, they can work anywhere on the planet!

Project 1

This incredible backyard area is the perfect combination of simple design and high-quality finishes. The project perfectly adhered to the clients’ requests for an open lawn area and modern interpretation of the classic Queensland colonial landscape.

The clients needed a space for entertaining, so the team at ARgo Architects incorporated an extended patio at the back of the house large enough for family dining. An outdoor kitchen, uninterrupted lawn area and a fire pit were also included in the design.

The pool was designed by Will Marcus of ARgo Architects, with the clients’ brief and budget in mind. The structural design was completed by newport Consulting engineers and the construction of the pool was undertaken by genesis Pools. Wanting to ensure the pool and landscape were blurred at the edges to create seamless integration of the space, the company also designed the project’s landscaping. This was then constructed by Paul Byrne of Paul Byrne design and landscaping.

Since its establishment by Will Marcus in 1983, ARgo Architects has designed more than 2700 swimming pools. The business is now a full-service professional consultancy firm, providing architectural, landscape architectural and project management services.

With a wide range of aquatic project experience in 15 countries, the company demands high-quality performance from the builders it works with to create world-class pools.

ARGO Architects designs residential pools throughout south-east Queensland, as well as aquatic centres nationwide and olympic pools and water theme parks around the world.

The company’s excellence has been recognised with many awards including Best Public Facility in Australia by the national Heart Foundation for Blackall Aquatic Centre. it also claimed Project of the Year between $3 million–$15 million at the 2010 Master Builders Association (MBA) Queensland Awards for the “Wetside” Water Play and education Park in Hervey Bay.
