Norfolk Pools Project 1

A renowned specialist in building pools on difficult sites, Norfolk Pools continues to demonstrate that no challenge is too great with this incredible bushland project. Located in a koala habitat, this project’s site presented a number of issues that had to be considered, from the steep slope and protected trees to the potential for erosion.

For easy access, the homeowners wanted the pool and surrounding deck to be level with the home’s existing first-floor balcony, which meant that the pool would be more than 6m above ground level in some areas. To overcome this challenge, Norfolk Pools built a timber bridge between the house and the pool, as well as cantilevered timber decks between the pool and entertaining area. As well as ensuring that the structure of the pool and decking didn’t damage the existing habitat, it was also important that the design visually complemented its surroundings. Rather than using glass or aluminium pool fencing, hardwood timber hand rails with stainless steel wire were chosen to blend with the natural bushland aesthetic.

The selection of natural materials continues with bluestone coping surrounding the pool and local bluestone used for the cladding on the garden bed’s retaining walls. A subtle aqua was selected for the interior, which houses three concealed waterfalls. From a steep block without any level yard area for the homeowners’ children to play, Norfolk Pools has transformed this site into a magnificent outdoor living space, complete with decks, a pool and a gazebo. The family now enjoy their outdoor area every day, surrounded by koalas, kangaroos and wallabies.
